Carlos and Alexa PenaVega are diving into an important topic as they begin their new podcast — should your spouse be your best friend?
“You have to marry your best friend,” Alexa said, then addressed Carlos, “You are my favorite person in the world. I love spending every moment with you. I don’t need a break from you.”
She explained that that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t “have amazing friendships outside of your marriage, but your spouse has to be your best friend, your number one, the person that excites you.”
“You and I make each other better, because you make me level up and I make you level up,” she told her husband. “I can’t imagine doing life without you.”

The SPY KIDS actress has often shared the importance of being a true partner to your spouse, and how the couple’s shared faith plays a role in their marriage.
“God has been our foundation and our sustainer through all of it. That even through our lowest of lows through our marriage, which we talk about in our book, God really put an emphasis on our heart [about] marriage,” she told The Christian Post. “It’s something that is holy, and it’s His [God’s]. Even though it’s our marriage to fight for, it belongs to Him. So we are a unit and nothing can break us up.”
In a 2020 interview, Carlos spoke about the couple’s marriage, telling E! News that one of the keys to their relationship is that “we communicate.”
The PenaVegas even wrote a book about their relationship, What If Love Is The Point?: Living for Jesus in a Self-Consumed World, about how their marriage encouraged both of them to connect more deeply with their faith.
“A year ago, we got approached by our publisher, we told them about this idea we had for our book and they loved it. We wrote it and here we are a year later,” Carlos told Digital Journal.
Alexa added, “It was definitely therapeutic to write this book because you are having a deep dive into your history and childhood. That proved to us that God is really working the whole time.”
“It is such an easy read too because we didn’t try to be anything that we weren’t. I am really proud of what we came up with,” Carlos said.
The PenaVegas’ marriage is proof that the old adage is true — you really should marry your best friend.
