Reba McEntire has spent decades in the music industry, putting out dozens of hit country songs — but is she planning on hanging up her microphone and retiring?
“I don’t know when. It could be in 20 years,” she said in 2025 when asked about the possibility of her retirement. “I think I’ll know when it’s the time.”
McEntire said she and fellow country icon Dolly Parton have “talked about that an awful lot.”
“I said, ‘Are you going to retire?’ She said, ‘Why would I? What in the world could I do and have as much fun as what I’m doing in this job right now?’” she continued. “I agree with her a hundred percent. Slow down, maybe, but no plans of retiring.”
In another 2025 interview with USA Today, McEntire said, “I’m having a blast. I feel like a teenager again. It’s just a wonderful time.”
“I’m 70 years old, 50 years in the business, and I’m happier now than I’ve ever been in my life,” she continued. “God saved the best for last.”

The country singer has been celebrating her five decades in the music industry with a special project: a series of EPs that feature a newly recorded track with some of her old classics.
“It’s genius to be able to bring a new song to the fans along with five songs that are in the catalog,” she told Variety. “I think it’s a genius idea because even when you are at a concert, you say, ‘OK, I’m gonna play you a new song. Everybody goes, oh yeah, but they want to hear familiarity. They want to hear songs where they can sing along and they know the words and it takes them back to a place the first time they heard it, or with their best friend or someone they love. So to prepare a brand new song with older songs that they already are familiar with and they love is genius. And I’m so glad to be a part of this project.”
The releases began in April and will continue throughout the year, with titles including Ring Ring, Ain’t Gonna Keep It Waitin’ and Hurt Like That.
McEntire is also set to start work soon on Season 3 of her sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE.
“I’ve loved thirty-minute sitcoms forever,” she told Garden & Gun. “They made you feel good, and it was short and quick, because my attention span’s like a two-year-old’s. Humor is the thing that can get you out of depression or sadness; humor is the treacle cutter, and everybody needs that.”
New music, working on her hit show — it looks like McEntire isn’t planning on retiring any time soon.
