Anne Wilson is reminding us that our identity is “rooted” in God.

“Hey girl, stop scrolling,” the country singer said in an Instagram video. “I just recently put out a new song called ‘Who I Am To You.’ This song was inspired by one of the hardest seasons of my life that I’ve lived so far, which was truly hitting rock-bottom low — like, the lowest I had been — and realizing that my identity was not in God.”

Wilson continued, “It wasn’t in who He called me to be. It was in my success, my career, my flaws, my failures, what people said about me, what the enemy said about me. All the things that weren’t what the Lord was speaking over me. And it took me hitting that moment to realize, ‘Okay, my identity has to be rooted in who God says that I am.’”

She then shared a message for anyone who might be in a similar situation.

“Maybe you’re walking through a similar time where you truly feel like you do not know who you are. You’re being defined by your mistakes right now, or your past, or your failures, or what people are saying about you,” Wilson said. “Let this video remind you that you are who God calls you to be. You are loved, you are worthy, you are chosen, you are adored, and you are a child of the most high King.”

In an Instagram post announcing the release of “Who I Am To You,” Wilson shared, “There are so many voices telling us who we’re supposed to be, but the most important voice is the One who created us.”

“My prayer is that this song reminds you to silence the lies, let go of the labels, and hold onto what God says is true,” she continued. “You are known. You are loved. You are His. I hope this song helps you see yourself a little more through His eyes.”

In a video posted earlier this year, Wilson detailed more of her identity struggle, and how she ultimately found strength in God.

“The last six months of my life have been some of the hardest six months of my entire life,” Wilson shared with fans. “I have never struggled so much with my identity, feelings of unworthiness, feelings of brokenness, feelings of just, that I’m not enough. And I’ve been reminded through so much Scripture and through so much encouragement from friends and families and mentors that I am enough in Jesus and I am worthy in Jesus.”

Wilson’s words are a reminder that the only opinion that truly matters is God’s.
