Should You Watch It?

This is one of the best episodes in the whole series. It is filled with laughs, and the characters are well-defined through both the writing and the performances.

More importantly, the episode takes prayer, listening to God, renewing your faith, and treating people kindly seriously. Its message about taking biblical teaching to heart is built around Noah and the Great Flood, including the hope of making a fresh start.

The tradeoff is small but real: there is brief foul language and a couple of references to alcohol. If those concerns fit your family’s standards, this is an encouraging choice for all ages. The practical answer is simple: WORTH WATCHING.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Mike Baxter wants to go ice fishing instead of teaching the adult Sunday School class. His son-in-law, Kyle, agrees to substitute, drawing on his experience teaching the children’s class.

Kyle’s simple message about Noah and the Great Flood reaches Mike’s pastor, Reverend Paul, who is struggling with his calling. Meanwhile, Mike’s daughter Eve believes her older sisters are taking advantage of Jen, the family’s Chinese exchange student.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars means this is a standout episode. “The Passion of Paul” is funny and winsome, with well-defined characters shaped by strong writing and performances.

The episode’s Christian message is also handled with warmth. Its story about a pastor who has lost his passion for ministry gives the humor a meaningful center, while the family storyline adds another example of people learning to treat one another kindly.

The Worldview

The episode presents a very strong Christian, biblical worldview. It extols preaching, Sunday School, prayer, listening to God, taking biblical messages to heart, renewing your faith, and cleansing your soul. Noah and the Great Flood become a picture of starting over, being renewed, and receiving the chance to make a fresh start.

The episode also presents ministry as a calling that can require renewal rather than abandonment. Its characters are encouraged to listen for God’s direction, take biblical teaching seriously, and treat people equally. These themes align closely with a biblical view of faith, prayer, repentance, renewal, and kindness.

The episode’s central longing is for a fresh start and renewed purpose. Scripture says, “Be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
