Should You Watch It?

MUPPETS HAUNTED MANSION is entertaining, with the typical fun and crazy Muppet moments parents may enjoy and children may find silly. It also has several fun nods to Disney’s “The Haunted Mansion” park attraction.

The cost is its mixed occult and moral worldview. The special acknowledges an afterlife but dwells heavily on ghosts instead of a final destination after death. It also includes a séance, scary elements, a wedding scene, and an instance of cross-dressing. Its redemptive touches include friendship as a positive motivator and the hint to “follow the light” to freedom.

Adults who can thoughtfully navigate those elements may find enough humor and allegorical meaning to make the trip worthwhile. For children and young teens, choose something else.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Gonzo and Pepi the Prawn stay at a haunted mansion to commemorate the 100th anniversary of magician McGuffin’s disappearance there. A Ghost Host introduces them to the eerie house, where they encounter ghostly residents and unsettling surprises.

As Gonzo and Pepi explore the mansion, they discover that getting out may be harder than getting in. Their friendship faces a strange test amid the mansion’s fears, mysteries, and possible romance.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars means this special is highly entertaining. MUPPETS HAUNTED MANSION offers typical fun, crazy Muppet moments, with comical jokes that may amuse parents while children laugh at the silly antics.

The special also includes several enjoyable nods to the Disney park attraction “The Haunted Mansion.” Its chapters mirror the ride’s chronological events, though only familiar viewers are likely to notice that detail. The result is an entertaining Muppet production, even though its content requires discernment.

The Worldview

MUPPETS HAUNTED MANSION presents a mixed occult and moral worldview with Christian allegorical moments. It acknowledges an afterlife but focuses heavily on ghost imagery rather than a final destination for life after death. The séance and haunted setting reinforce that occult framework.

At the same time, the special presents friendship as a positive motivator in life and hints that one should “follow the light” to freedom. Those ideas offer redemptive direction, but they do not replace a clear biblical understanding of life after death. The story also includes a wedding scene and an instance of cross-dressing.

The longing to escape darkness and find freedom points toward a truth Scripture states more clearly: Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).
