ONE NIGHT ONLY is a modern rom-com. The movie follows Owen and Allie, a pizza shop owner and a singer, as they search for real love on the least romantic night of the year: the one night that premarital sex remains legal. Owen’s girlfriend dumps him for the night to sleep around, prompting him to find someone worth sleeping with.
Meanwhile, Allie seeks a real connection instead of a one-night stand. The two repeatedly encounter each other during their quests for love, battling over the last condom in the city, sneaking into parties, and getting stuck together at the police station. When their dates turn out poorly, they end up at Owen’s pizza shop, where they discuss the true meaning of love. Just as Allie realizes her feelings for Owen, his girlfriend calls and wants him back, but Owen rushes out to sleep with her; he cannot forgive her and recognizes his love for Allie.
This movie captures beautiful shots of New York and features Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro delivering remarkable performances that bring their characters to life.
ONE NIGHT ONLY presents a mainly hedonistic and anti-biblical worldview. The story unfolds on the night when people engage in casual sex, with many pursuing multiple partners to enjoy the experience. However, tt has redemptive elements as the main characters recognize that this approach is misguided. Allie clearly states that sex loses value if it leaves one feeling empty.
