Should You Watch It?

Yes — and it's an easy yes. GOAT hands your family a beautifully made animated sports comedy with a moral center that actually holds up: a hero who measures himself by character, not size, who perseveres through setbacks, and who lifts up everyone around him along the way.

It isn't spotless. There's crude humor (a "sheep" stand-in for a cruder word, a "your mom" joke), some cartoon nudity played for laughs rather than titillation, and gameplay violence — broken bones, claws, rough hits — intense enough to rattle a sensitive young viewer.

None of that outweighs what the film gets right. If your kids can handle lively, sometimes-scary sports action, this is a movie worth taking them to see.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Will Harris is a goat with serious game — but in the city of Vineland, where everyone plays the basketball-like sport of Roarball using their own animal-given gifts, nobody expects much from a player his size. When Will beats a pro in a one-on-one match, he catches the eye of the Thorns' team owner and gets his shot. Now he has to prove, against every doubter, that "the goat" doesn't have to be the biggest animal on the court.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars, and it earns them. The animation is top-notch — vibrant colors, a distinctive art style, and camera work during the gameplay sequences that makes each Roarball match feel genuinely exciting to watch. The world-building shines too: each court "biome" is visually inventive, and the character designs land with both kids and adults.

The voice cast delivers the comedy and heart with real skill, and the humor plays well across age groups. This is a film built with craft at every level — not just a passable kids' movie, but a well-made one.

The Worldview

GOAT exalts something Scripture exalts: that worth isn't measured by outward stature. Will never worries about his height — he worries about his character and his abilities, and the film treats that as the whole point. Around that center, the story builds real virtue: perseverance through trial, standing up for what's right, leaning on family and community, and — notably — characters who ask forgiveness for past failures and find redemption because of it.

There's nothing here that pulls against a biblical view of the world; if anything, the film's insistence that heart matters more than size, and that redemption is available after failure, tracks closely with how Scripture asks us to see people and ourselves.

The film's small imperfections — some crude jokes, a bit of cartoon nudity, brief innuendo played for laughs — are minor next to what it gets right, and worth knowing about mainly so you can decide how younger children will take them.

At its core, GOAT is telling the story of the underestimated made great — which is exactly the story Scripture tells about the shepherd boy no one expected: "For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7).
