What You Need To Know

LAST BREATH is an excellent action adventure about an undersea pipeline diver in the North Sea who gets trapped on a platform 350 feet below the surface. Based on a true story, LAST BREATH is exciting and suspenseful, with a heroic, inspiring story about sacrifice and brotherhood, but the movie has some obscenities, so caution is advised for older children and mature viewers.
Woody Harrelson plays Duncan, the American mentor to a 22-year-old diver named Chris, played by Finn Cole. Simu Liu plays Dave, the diver who must return to the sea bottom to rescue Chris. Mark Bonnar plays Craig, the dive supervisor who monitors the dive and the rescue from a large ship on the surface. Chris Curtis plays the Captain of the ship, which starts to drifts away from the dive site because of a vicious storm on the surface. Myanna Buring plays the First Officer of the ship, Helen. Lastly, Bobby Rainsbury plays Chris’ fiancée, Murag, who’s waiting anxiously on the surface for his return, though she knows nothing of his current life-or-death predicament.
Three teams of saturation divers are sent down in three large diving tubes to the pipeline to replace some of the pipes. Duncan, Chris and Dave are Team A. Chris and Dave take a small diving bell, which is little more than a cage, partway down to the platform. Meanwhile, Duncan feeds his two divers with two long umbilical cables, or tethers, which Chris and Dave attach to themselves.
However, when Chris and Dave get to the pipeline platform 350 feet below, the vicious storm on the surface forces the captain to order the men to abort their mission. Chris and Dave move swiftly to return to the diving bell, but the tether holding Chris gets stuck on the undersea platform. It’s also about to break.
With oxygen running out, Dave decides to return to the diving bell to get more oxygen from Duncan. Dave tells Chris to get to the top of the platform so he can find Chris when he returns.
Dave swims back to Duncan, but will their job become a rescue or a recovery?
LAST BREATH is exciting and suspenseful. It tells a heroic, inspiring story about sacrifice and brotherhood, with an amazing and inspiring finish. However, LAST BREATH has some obscenities. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children and mature viewers.

The Content Guide

The specifics — spoilers included by nature — so you can judge for your own family.

Dominant Worldview and Other Worldview Content/Elements

Very strong moral worldview about a heroic, sacrificial rescue of a diver trapped on an undersea platform for an oil pipeline in the North Sea, the story hints of death and resurrection, and a minister appears in one scene, plus marriage is promoted and there’s a strong sense of brotherhood among the divers, and the movie supports the oil industry in the North Sea and its importance to the lives of the people in Europe depending on it

Foul Language

10 obscenities (including one “f” word in video footage from the real incident and four “s” words) and three light profanities (OG and one MG)

Violence

Violent storm rocks a ship at sea and scenes of peril when undersea diver’s tether to his undersea vessel gets caught on undersea machinery below and eventually cut, leaving the diver trapped underseas with vanishing oxygen level and another diver comes to rescue him or retrieve his body, so the threat of death is almost constant

Man kisses his fiancée while they are sitting on a couch, and they disappear from camera view as they lie down on the couch, apparently still kissing, and the engaged couple apparently lives together, but having a wedding ceremony and getting married are supported
