What You Need To Know
Twenty-six years after the original GOOD BURGER premiered, Paramount+ has released the latest in a string of legacy sequels to Dan Schneider productions, made without his involvement following his 2018 allegations of misconduct toward underage talent. GOOD BURGER 2 sees Dexter and Ed reunite to save the “Good Burger” joint from being taken over and converted to full automation by Katt Bozwell, the revenge-seeking sister of the original movie’s antagonist. Dexter and Ed team up with the rest of Good Burger’s employees to stop Katt’s grand opening and take back control of their company.
It’s rather confusing that Paramount saw fit to greenlight a sequel to GOOD BURGER, given the original movie’s lack of cultural impact and the ostensible dearth of demand for a revisiting of the characters. GOOD BURGER 2 does nothing to innovate or improve on the premise of the original. It’s simply a cartoonish, juvenile story about two hapless burger joint owners. The viewer cannot help but wonder if the funding for this program might not have put to better use on a more viable production. If somehow you enjoyed the 1997 program enough that you wanted to see the characters at least one more time, then this movie is for you and only you. Otherwise, there are better uses of your 90 minutes.
As the sequel to a Nickelodeon production, GOOD BURGER 2 is heavily targeted toward children. The characters, the dialogue, and the humor are all so juvenile that few teenagers or adults will find it palatable. That being said, the program may be unsuitable for very young children, as it includes mild foul language, a scene of a woman being sexualized, and themes of overcoming revenge and deception. Parents should exercise caution.
