DC LEAGUE OF SUPER-PETS
A lively animated adventure about loyalty, love, and sacrifice.
Should You Watch It?
You get a lively, amusing superhero adventure with a lot of heart. Krypto’s unconditional love for Superman drives the story, while the shelter animals discover their gifts through friendship and teamwork. The movie also promotes loyalty, truth, justice, and sacrificial love.
The tradeoff is mild but real. There are scary images, cruel behavior by the villain, light action-related violence, crude potty humor, a few innuendoes, and some bleeped obscenities. There is also an implication that Lois Lane spends the night at Superman’s house and a scene in which two women are said to be engaged.
For older children and adults, this is a strong family viewing choice with discernment. Younger children may need a different adventure.
The Story
NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISESKrypto and Superman are best friends with the same superpowers. But when Superman is kidnapped and Krypto loses his powers, the formerly arrogant loner must depend on a group of unusual animal shelter friends.
Ace, Merton, PB, and Chip each receive special abilities. Together, they face Lulu, a powerful former laboratory guinea pig with a grudge against Superman. Their rescue mission becomes even more urgent when the Justice League is captured too.
Is It Any Good?
Four stars means this is an especially entertaining animated adventure. It is amusing, lively, and full of heart and soul, with humor that should keep adults laughing even when some of the throwbacks go over children’s heads.
The story also gives its unusual animal heroes room to grow. Friendship and teamwork help them discover their gifts, while Krypto’s love for Superman gives the adventure emotional weight. The result is a spirited, values-centered superhero film that offers both laughs and genuine feeling.
The Worldview
The film presents a strong Christian, redemptive worldview with clear moral elements. It celebrates unconditional and sacrificial love, especially through Krypto’s devotion to Superman. It also emphasizes that each character has unique gifts and talents that can be discovered and developed through friendship and teamwork.
Loyalty, truth, and justice are treated as virtues. The movie also highlights the honor of fathers when Krypto seeks answers from his father. Its moral vision aligns with Scripture in valuing love that gives itself for another, though its superhero framework remains imaginative rather than biblical.
The film includes two women who are seen together and said to be engaged. Viewers should weigh that reference according to their family’s convictions.
The movie’s central longing is to love faithfully and sacrificially. Jesus says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
