DAREDEVIL: CUT MAN begins with Daredevil, aka Matt Murdock, masked and injured, lying in a dumpster after trying to go after the Russian mob who kidnapped a child to trap Matt, whom they are calling “the man in the mask.” A woman named Claire finds Murdock and helps him into her apartment. Claire tends to Matt’s wounds, but the Russians are still after him, Matt and Claire are forced to flee her apartment. Additionally, more is revealed about a mysterious wealthy and powerful figure, who has a devious plan for Hell’s Kitchen. Flashbacks reveal Matt’s childhood, and how is father who boxed always got back up. “Cut Man” is intense from the get go. The action is remarkable, especially one particular shot that is highly choreographed and intricate. The tension is always high, as it is obvious that Matt doesn’t always leave fights unscathed, and actually loses quite a few fights. There’s also a nice moment when Matt’s father chooses to do the right thing. This episode does involve Matt torturing a gangster to reveal the location of a kidnapped child.
