Erin Napier was sure of now-husband Ben from the start, but the HGTV star recently revealed she was “scared” to bring her then-boyfriend home to meet her parents.
“I just thought he was the greatest,” Erin gushed about her husband on “Talk to Me: The Debra Fileta Podcast.” “I had the biggest crush on him.”
However, as great as Erin thought Ben was, she admitted she was “so scared” for him to meet her parents.
“In high school, we didn’t have such a good relationship because I didn’t trust their counsel when I should have,” she explained of her relationship with her mom and dad. “I had some really bad influences in my life, and they were like, ‘These people are terrible for you.’ And I was like, ‘You don’t know.’…And then, it turns out they definitely did know. And so, they never liked any guy I ever dated or that they ever met.”
Turns out Erin had nothing to worry about — “[My mom] loved him immediately. He walked in the room and gave her a big hug like he just belonged there, like he’s always been doing this. And then, my dad, he met two days later. Daddy was home and Ben came over, and my dad immediately loved him. And that had just never happened.”
“Immediately, they were like, ‘He’s very good. He’s good,’” she continued, joking, “And I was like, ‘Are you sure? Are you sure? ‘Cause he’s very poor and also a partier.’ And they were like, ‘No, he’s wonderful.’”

The Napiers have talked about their marriage before, and how they find it easy to live and work together.
“We’ve always worked together and we don’t know how to do it any other way,” Ben said on the podcast. “It’s a question that comes up a lot when we’re doing interviews. You know like, ‘How can you stand to work with your spouse all day long?’ To me that’s more of a sign of like, something’s up. If you can’t stand to be with your spouse…”
He added, “The only times problems come up for us is when we have spent more than two nights away from each other…I guess really, our problem is that we can’t be apart.”
In a 2025 interview with Us Weekly, Erin shared, “We’ve been together longer than we’ve been apart. We learned how to communicate together. It’s effortless now.”
Erin might have been scared to introduce Ben to her parents, but today, the couple have never been more sure of each other.
