Bear Grylls says God gave us all a spirit of resilience, but it’s all about “where you choose to direct” it.
“I think the resilience, you gotta build,” he told Movieguide®. “It’s not like those God-given talents that the superheroes at school have, you know, where they’re clever or sporty or good-looking…You know, those qualities don’t matter much in life. What matters in life is the dogged, determined, never-give-up [attitude]. And the great thing is that resilience can be built in all of us.”
Grylls continued, “I think you can’t expect to be a never-give-up [kind of person] if you never face anything hard…It’s how we’re designed as humans. God gave us that spirit of, like, ‘Come on, we can do this,’ and it’s about where you choose to direct that spirit.”

That resilient spirit is something fans can see in Grylls’ latest series, THE CHOSEN IN THE WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS.
“The series follows the cast of the groundbreaking historical drama THE CHOSEN as they take on challenges across forests, deserts, and canyons,” a description of the show on Amazon’s website reads, listing cast members like Jonathan Roumie, Paras Patel, Elizabeth Tabish, Noah James and Luke Dimyan.
When asked what fans of THE CHOSEN will get out of the show, Grylls replied, “I think just a connection with the cast that they love so much in a way you’d never normally get…I just didn’t realize quite how invested so many people are around the world in this cast and in these characters…I think I just want people to sense that connection, to love getting to know the real people, and to enjoy the adventure.”
“Out of all the different shows I’ve done, all of the cast of THE CHOSEN were especially out of their comfort zone,” Grylls told Woman’s World. “They were all rookies in terms of that, and we went to some wild places. But even though they were nervous, they all had their hearts on their sleeves, and they had such incredible stories about how this show, THE CHOSEN, has impacted and changed their life.”
He continued, “I think I just wasn’t ready and didn’t expect that level of emotion from them. I’ve heard from a lot of stars about their movie roles, but this is different. This role for these actors has really impacted their lives. Some of it’s been a real battle, and I think that was really special.”
THE CHOSEN IN THE WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS premieres Aug. 9 on Prime Video.
