On a recent episode of Candace Cameron Bure’s podcast, she and The Bible Recap author Tara-Leigh Cobble revealed how looking for God in His Word is transformative.
Bure told Cobble, “You said to me, ‘When you read through the Bible,’ one of the greatest tips I think you had received and passed on to me was that you said, ‘Look for God in all the stories. Don’t look for yourself. Don’t try to find yourself in whatever book you’re reading. Find God.'”
When you look for what God is doing in scripture, it gives a better understanding of Him.
“Isn’t it crazy how just the lens through which we read scripture and what we’re looking for really is a game changer?” Cobble said. “Because when I was reading through the Bible looking for myself, man, it’s burdensome. It’s exhausting. I never measure up.”
When you look at scripture relating everything back to yourself, you miss out on a lot.
“I either feel really proud when I get it when I knock it out of the park or I feel really terrible when I fail, but it’s still all about me and it’s not teaching me anything about God,” Cobble explained. “When you read the Bible and you look for God, you see that despite the fact that we fall short, he’s made a way and that he is like just completely committed to pursuing the people who fall short.”
It really shows God’s heart for his children.

“And it paints him as beautiful, and you feel so loved, and you feel so drawn in, and it’s a whole different story,” Cobble said.
When Bure first met Cobble, she told her she was reading the Bible front to back. She was surprised when Cobble told her the Bible is not completely formatted in chronological order.
“You changed the way I started reading the Bible after I met you,” she confirmed to Cobble.
Cobble’s book, The Bible Recap, is a chronological reading plan that summarizes scripture in an easily digestible way. Cobble also has The Bible Recap in podcast and video formats.
Cobble says she sees the unity and beauty of the Bible. She believes to fully understand God, one needs to read the Old Testament and the New Testament, and both are of equal importance.
“It’s incredible how it’s woven together in this one beautiful story and it holds,” she said on Madison Prewett Troutt’s podcast.
Cobble also hosts a daily radio show called The God Shot, which is available to stream through Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and on WAY-FM, KSBJ and KVNE.
