Singer-songwriter Tasha Layton recently shared the real ways reading scripture can change your life.
“When I was in seminary, I read the Bible through, and I’ve done it at another time as well, but something about doing it in two years is, like, so much easier and life-giving,” she said in an Instagram video, explaining that she can “remember things better.”
Layton continued, “I’m really letting it take root in my heart, versus just, like, skimming and rushing through it, and I have time to, like, look stuff up, and all that, but it’s just, like — it’s so awesome, and you’re digging a well in your life, you know, [by] reading scripture.”
“You’re literally changing the way you think and who you are, and it’s such a, you know, trite thing to say…but it really is life-changing,” she said. “We need a deep well and we need fresh rain as believers…the scriptures literally dig that deep well that we need.”
Layton’s video is part of a YouTube documentary she made, titled MEET ME IN THE VALLEY, that follows her time camping in Death Valley.

“I spent three days camping out and fasting alone,” she said in an interview with CCM Magazine, explaining that she wanted to get away from the noise and connect with God.
Layton said, “I think we’re all either exiting a valley, in a valley, or heading into a valley. That’s just life… I really needed to get away and hear from the Lord because I felt like some pieces were missing… I was like, how do I help people walk through their own valleys?”
“My prayer is that people will come away inspired to get with God… to take time to sort through, like, what do I need to acknowledge? What do I need to heal from? If this is where the broken things are brought to life, then lead me through the wilderness, but don’t leave my side,” she added.
Layton also wrote a song called “Meet Me in the Valley,” which she told social media followers “is a prayer for anyone who feels like they’re navigating the low places right now. You are not forgotten. You are not alone. God meets you right where you are.”
In another post, she explained, “’Meet Me In The Valley’ is a prayer for the moments we feel stuck in the low places. Even there — especially there — God comes close. If you’re walking through a difficult season, may this song remind you that He meets us right where we are with comfort, strength, and peace.”
