THE PROMISED LAND is heading back into the wilderness.
Writer-director Mitch Hudson confirmed Season 2 of the biblical mockumentary is filming now, with distribution giant Lionsgate signed on to carry the show to a wider audience this fall.
“This season finds Moses grappling with a new level of grumbling as the people make their way to the Promised Land,” Hudson told TV Insider. “We’ll see Miriam as she adjusts to her newfound fame following last season’s Tabernacle performance, and we’ll even see Chisisi leaving a trail for his Egyptian family to find him.”
Movieguide® readers already know THE PROMISED LAND well. Movieguide® reviewed the show’s first three episodes last fall and gave it four stars, calling it “funny, well-crafted and genuinely faithful to Scripture” with “a very strong biblical, moral worldview” rarely found in comedy. That combination of laughs and reverence is exactly what’s brought Lionsgate to the table now.
THE PROMISED LAND reimagines the Book of Exodus as a workplace comedy, following a reluctant Moses as he manages the Israelites’ 40-year commute through the desert. Season 1 shot in Utah and premiered free on YouTube before moving to the Angel platform, when the show pulled in more than 3.5 million views and 36 million social impressions in its first three weeks.
“We are not making fun of the Bible,” Hudson said then. “The humor comes from the human experience.”

Season 2 relocates production to Morocco, a bigger backdrop for a bigger swing. Wasim No’mani returns as Moses, alongside Shereen Khan as Miriam and Dav Coretti as Chisisi, the Egyptian spy trying to find his way home. The Lionsgate partnership was announced during a live watch party for the Season 1 finale, with the production declaring, fittingly, that “our wandering is over.”
Exact release plans remain in flux.
Hudson told TV Insider that Lionsgate is “still actively strategizing” how and where Season 2 will land, though TV Insider reported a fall 2026 premiere is the current target. Season 1’s six episodes carried a Family +1 rating from Movieguide®, with mild language and off-screen violence but nothing graphic — the kind of content parents can vet quickly and kids past a certain age can enjoy alongside them.
What makes THE PROMISED LAND worth watching isn’t just that it’s funny — plenty of shows manage that. It’s that the humor never undercuts the story. Golden calves get built, Miriam still sings, God still shows up and the jokes land without turning Scripture into a punchline. RELEVANT reported that several crew members previously worked on THE CHOSEN, and it shows in the production’s care with the source material even as the tone goes lighter.
That balance is rare enough that a distributor the size of Lionsgate took notice. For families who’ve spent years hunting for faith content that doesn’t feel like a lecture, THE PROMISED LAND has quietly made the case that reverence and comedy aren’t opposites. Season 2 will test whether that case holds up at a bigger scale — and whether the Israelites, forty years into their commute, are any closer to actually arriving.
