Should You Watch It?

Yes, but with a catch. It’s a lot of fun and has some really catchy original songs that’ll get your little ones singing along. There’s plenty of exploration and adventure, so if your child enjoys music and loves to move around, they’ll probably be captivated by it.

However, just a heads-up! A couple of episodes might require caution, especially for younger kids. One episode has a spooky Halloween theme, and another dives into the realm of magical potions. If your family is okay with fantasy and Halloween themes, these episodes can be a great source of energetic, wholesome entertainment. Plus, they really encourage kids to get up, dance, and be active while watching!

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Danny and his friends embark on musical adventures as they learn and explore the world. First, they venture into a medieval land to collect items needed to save Bearhead. The next episode features a Halloween-themed quest. Danny leads viewers on a trek to rescue Bearhead, running, jumping, and flying past spooky spiders, over a forest, and through a cornfield. During a dance break, kids move along with fun songs like “The Batwing Beat,” “The Skeleton Shake,” and “The Creepy Crawl.” In the third episode, Danny visits a magnet lab and experiments with magnetic forces and robots. Then, he and his friends take off on a space adventure to visit each planet in our solar system.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars means this one gets everyone on their feet with well-crafted, educational fun for young children. The bright colors, exaggerated movements, extensive costumes, props, upbeat music, and simple dialogue create a highly stimulating experience.

The fast-paced, energetic show features excellent backgrounds and visual effects. Danny frequently breaks the fourth wall, engaging viewers with his high energy, dramatic facial expressions, and enthusiastic delivery. Each episode presents a series of original musical numbers with repetitive patterns that help children follow along easily.

The show encourages kids to get up and move along with Danny through simple yet fun dances, pattern recognition, and common movements. The intentionally repetitive songs make them easy to follow, while the dances promote gross-motor movement through running, jumping, reaching, and cross-lateral movements.

The Worldview

Overall, the episodes promote a moral worldview as characters help one another, work as a team, and prioritize friendship over going it alone. These values align with the Bible's teachings about loving and serving others instead of being self-centered. Kids are encouraged to keep trying, stay active, and solve problems together rather than giving up.

However, two episodes venture into light magical themes. One fantasy episode set in medieval times features dragons and a magic potion that saves the day. Although the show's creator, Daniel Coleman, lost his late son to several medical hardships, the episode is a tribute to his resilience and search for a cure for his disease.

Additionally, a Halloween episode incorporates witches and magical imagery. While nothing in these episodes reads as genuine occult instruction, they are cartoonish rather than creepy. Portraying magic as a convenient solution to problems detracts from the show’s otherwise solid, biblically grounded message.
