SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is setting box office records; the comic book movie just scored the biggest domestic debut in box office history.

“SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY captured a mind-boggling, record-setting $360 million in its domestic debut, officially ranking as the biggest debut in box office history. After landing above Sunday’s estimates of $355 million, BRAND NEW DAY has outpaced the prior all-time benchmark of 2019’s AVENGERS: ENDGAME with $357 million (not adjusted for inflation),” Variety reported.

BRAND NEW DAY also scored the second-biggest global box office debut — “The revised global opening is now $932M, which still stands as the second best worldwide opening at the box office behind AVENGERS: ENDGAME’s $1.22 billion,” Deadline reported.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY sees the webslinger dealing with the fallout from the events of the previous movie — after a spell from Dr. Strange left everyone in his life with no memory of Peter Parker, he must face new foes and deal with issues with his powers on his own.

Movieguide® called the movie a “terrific, heartfelt action adventure movie,” with “exciting action scenes, great character development, compelling performances, and many touching moments.”

The SPIDER-MAN movie was smashing box office records from the very beginning, making “a record-breaking $72 million in previews, including Wednesday early access screenings, the most of any movie in history,” per another Variety report.

“This is a truly phenomenal opening, and we are grateful to audiences everywhere for coming out and experiencing our film the way it was meant to be seen,” Marvel Studios head and BRAND NEW DAY producer Kevin Feige said in a statement. “This debut reflects the enduring power of Marvel’s characters, and the connection they continue to have with fans around the world — and, as audiences saw, it sets up exciting things to come.”

Amy Pascal, BRAND NEW DAY producer and one of the people who jump-started this latest round of SPIDER-MAN movies while serving as Chair of Columbia Pictures, added, “We’re incredibly grateful to audiences for embracing the bold creative and deeply emotional vision Destin [Daniel Cretton, the movie’s director] took with this film.”

“It’s exciting to see such a powerful response to a story that never lost sight of what makes Peter Parker so enduring — his humanity,” she continued. “This remarkable opening reinforces that moviegoers are hungry for stories that are both spectacular and deeply human, and we’re thrilled to see that resonate on such a global scale.”

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY marks a major success for Marvel and proves that audiences might be getting over their superhero fatigue.
