Seventeen-year-old future LSU football commit Peyton “Pop” Houston balances extracurricular activities, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and starring in the new season of GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL by turning to his faith.
“Knowing that my calling is football, so every chance I get out there to go display the talents God has blessed me with, we use it,” the quarterback said on Fox News’ AMERICA’S NEWSROOM. “I use it as my form of worship, giving it back to Him. And then with school is easy. My parents teach me to be a student athlete and not an athlete student, so staying focused in the classroom is big.”
In June, Houston spoke with sports radio host Cayden Kubler about his calling to play quarterback.
“There’s really no balance, because it comes with the game,” the athlete told Kubler. “I feel like when I was younger, I had the feeling that God had a purpose for me, a calling, and I was to play quarterback and play football. So I’m using every chance that I get to glorify Him and give Him all the glory to help the generations after me and the generations before me.”

“It means a lot, but I really just come out here to have an opportunity to display what God has given me, just to provide for the future, and what I want to do in my later life,” the high school senior said said of getting to participate in the Elite 11 camp, the the “most Elite Quarterback Society in America.” “So, being able to come out here to compete with some of the top quarterbacks has been truly a blessing. Honestly, I get a great opportunity to be here.”
“I got an opportunity, a lifelong goal of mine, to retire my parents. I have the opportunity to go to LSU and get my parents done with work and all the hard work they put in for me,” he added.
Houston stars in the newest season of GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL, which debuted on Fox Nation on Aug. 13. The series follows coach and pastor Denny Duron as he “continues his mission to rebuild the storied football program at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana.”
“With high expectations and higher emotional stakes, this season follows an underdog team of young athletes led by rising stars both on the field and in life,” a synopsis reads.
Houston will attend LSU next fall where he’s sure to continue to let his faith guide him.
