Throughout French soccer star Maxence Lacroix’s eight years as a professional soccer player, his relationship with Jesus has grown.

“I didn’t grow up in a Christian family, but I really met Jesus some years ago, and I changed totally my life, to walk totally like He wants,” Lacroix said in a Chelsea Football Club feature, posted on Facebook.

In another interview with Premiere Christian News, the athlete discussed how his foundation in Jesus helped him find stability on and off the field.

“It was a beautiful journey…the journey is not finished, of course. But yeah, it’s like the foundation of my life,” he told the outlet. “And this helps me every single day, every single moment because sometimes in football, you have ups and downs…and it’s really important to have something different than just human beings.”

The defender’s faith in God gave him strength to overcome personal struggles.

“Jesus was the answer of all the questions of all the difficulties I had before. And yeah, this is why I’m so happy to make the journey with him,” he declared.

Lacroix just signed with one of the most well-known clubs in all of soccer, Chelsea FC.

“I am really happy to be part of this beautiful club. Everyone knows the legend of Chelsea, its tradition of winning, and to be a part of that is a proud moment,” Lacroix said in a press release from Chelsea.

“When I spoke with the manager, I saw that we have the same direction and desire for this club,” he continued, “We want to win. When you see the quality of the players here, everything we have around the club, it’s something that we can achieve. The ambition is to lift trophies, and I can’t wait to contribute.”

Last week, Lacroix praised God for the opportunity to play for Chelsea.

“Here. An absolute honour to sign for a club like @chelseafc. So ready for the challenge ahead. Thank you Jesus always. See you all at the Bridge soon,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.

He then added Romans 8:31, which says, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

As Lacroix begins a new chapter with Chelsea FC, he credits his faith in Jesus as the steady foundation that has carried him through the ups and downs of his career and now fuels his excitement for the challenges ahead.
