Christian content creator, Bible teacher and Air1 radio DJ Lacy Abercrombie is pulling back the curtain on years spent hiding alcohol addiction behind a fast-growing platform of Christian comedy content.

She told her story in a new White Chair film I Am Second released Aug. 31 from its headquarters in Plano, Texas.

“God was calling me into the light,” Abercrombie said in a press release. “So, I told the truth and it was terrifying. But the freedom I felt afterward was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.”

Abercrombie built her following on TikTok and Instagram with relatable, light-hearted Christian comedy, the kind of content that made her look like she had it together. Her new film tells a messier version of the story, tracing how she felt distant from God for years even as, she says now, He never actually left.

“Whenever I start to tell my story, I always begin with instability and inconsistency was all I ever knew,” Abercrombie said.

She grew up in a household marked by multiple marriages and abusive relationships, a childhood that left her wrestling with insecurity and questions about her identity well into adulthood. By 16, severely depressed and suicidal, Abercrombie moved in with her grandmother and started learning about God for the first time. A few years later, her videos began going viral, and quietly, so did old habits she thought she’d left behind.

“I had no idea what it meant to live for Jesus,” Abercrombie said. “I had no idea what it meant to be known by Him and to be cared for by Him. So, at that point in my life, I was still searching for love and attention everywhere else except for in Jesus. And I kept ending up empty.”

The turning point came at a Christian conference, where Abercrombie was privately battling alcohol addiction while publicly living out her faith online. A fellow speaker whose message focused on addiction recovery prayed over her, asking that she find freedom from addiction, even though Abercrombie had only requested prayer on someone else’s behalf. In that moment, she told the truth about her hidden struggle publicly and recommitted her life to Christ.

“He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than we could ever ask or imagine,” Abercrombie said. “That’s not a scripture that I hang on a wall — it’s a scripture that I know to be true because He took someone like me and said, ‘That one. I want to use her.'”

Abercrombie joined Air1 as its midday host in September 2025, stepping into the 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern slot after 16-year veteran host Josh Ashton moved to programming and overnight duties. K-LOVE Inc. said at the time that her “mission to help people know God’s Word” made her “an ideal addition to Air1’s Worship Now format,” and Air1 vice president of radio Mandy Young praised Abercrombie for building “an amazing community online with heart, humor and authenticity.” Today, she shares her story daily with millions of Air1 listeners across the country.

I Am Second has spent nearly two decades collecting testimonies like Abercrombie’s. Founded in 2008 by Interstate Battery chairman Norm Miller alongside the evangelism group e3 Partners, the organization’s White Chair films have carried the stories of surfer Bethany Hamilton, musician Michael W. Smith and former NFL linebacker Bradie James, among many others. Movieguide® has followed Hamilton’s own journey of faith for years, from her reflections on why bad things happen to good people to how she still finds, two decades after a shark attack took her arm, that with God there’s “always a way forward.”

Abercrombie’s story fits that same mold: unglamorous, unfinished in places and honest about the gap between an online persona and a private struggle. For Christian families who follow her comedy sketches without knowing what she carried behind them, her White Chair film offers something more useful than a highlight reel — a reminder that God pursues people through their worst seasons, not just their best ones, and that a platform built for laughs can still make room for the truth.
