For HGTV host and renovation expert Jasmine Roth, welcoming a third daughter at 42 wasn’t an accident — it was a long-considered decision.

“THIS is what intentional looks like to me and I can assure you it’s not an accident,” Roth wrote over an image in her Oct. 28 Instagram carousel, pushing back on assumptions about her growing family.

The HELP! I WRECKED MY HOUSE star shared hospital photos of her husband, Brett, and their older daughters getting acquainted with their newest family member. Alongside those moments, she explained that her age, business responsibilities and life as a mother had led some people to assume she hadn’t thought through adding another child.

Her account began well before this pregnancy. Roth said she gave birth to her second daughter just 10 days before turning 40 and immediately knew she wanted her family to keep growing, even though that feeling surprised her.

“I sat with that idea for a while (over a year) because it wasn’t how I’d expected to feel and I wanted to make sure it was real,” Roth explained, describing a desire she took time to consider rather than dismissing or immediately acting on it.

That distinction adds context to her earlier pregnancy announcement. In a PEOPLE interview published May 14, Roth described her surprise at a positive pregnancy test after previously needing more than a year and medical intervention to conceive her second daughter, Darla.

The interview also explained that she and Brett had begun trying for another child but hadn’t expected it to happen so quickly.

In the new post, Roth placed that choice within a much longer family story. She said she and Brett met in college, waited more than 15 years to start a family while focusing on their careers and later moved to Utah while continuing to grow both their family and their work.

She described that move as a major reset and said they could now look back on it as the right decision. Becoming more intentional, she explained, had shaped how they approached the rest of their lives, too.

Work and motherhood have been recurring subjects for Roth. As Movieguide® reported in September, she had been thinking about how to teach her daughters ambition and hard work without passing along a habit of measuring personal worth by productivity.

Her latest post connected those priorities with preparing for another baby. Roth pointed to working on her health, building a company she could continue growing as a mother, and pursuing goals while still making room for opportunities she hadn’t anticipated.

There were practical preparations at home as well. In an Oct. 15 post on her website, Roth described turning a small room behind the kitchen, mostly used for storage, into a nursery with traditional and modern touches.

She made space for the older girls, too: Each has a drawer of dolls in the nursery closet so they can care for their own babies alongside their mother. Now, the photographs in her new carousel show the sisters meeting the baby whose arrival she had spent so long considering.

“It’s been an absolute joy seeing my other daughters get to meet their little sister,” Roth wrote.
