Chris Pratt says Star-Lord is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with concrete steps already taken behind the scenes — but he is keeping the timing to himself.
“So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere,” the actor told Mike DeAngelo on The Playlist’s “Bingeworthy” podcast while promoting THE TERMINAL LIST Season 2.
That is a welcome answer for anyone who stayed through the credits of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 and wondered what became of the promise to bring Peter Quill back. Pratt said the conversations have moved beyond simply talking about a return, although he did not identify a project or release date.
“I have a great relationship with Kevin and Lou, and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise,” Pratt said, referring to Marvel executives Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito.
The distinction matters: Pratt is confirming his character has a future, not announcing another GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY sequel or naming his next AVENGERS appearance. His assurance gives fans something firmer than a hopeful wish without answering every question about what comes next.

Variety noted that Pratt has played Star-Lord in six Marvel movies. Alongside the three GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY entries, that run includes AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, AVENGERS: ENDGAME and THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER.
The outlet also revisited Pratt’s earlier comments that he had pitched Marvel his own idea for the character. Those earlier remarks concerned what he wanted to contribute; this latest interview adds his assurance that action has followed the discussions.
Pratt’s last GUARDIANS chapter arrived in May 2023. The movie finds Peter Quill, still grieving the loss of Gamora, pulling his team together to protect one of their own while defending the universe.
Writer-director James Gunn built that adventure around the group’s struggle to save Rocket. It gave the team a deeply personal mission: risk everything for a wounded friend, rather than treat one more enormous threat as just another day at work.
For families considering a rewatch while they wait, Movieguide®’s review of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 praised its themes of compassion, sacrifice, repentance, family and second chances. The review also highlighted positive references to God and a story that values innocent life.
Those strengths came with significant cautions, including excessive violence, strong language and objectionable jokes.
For now, fans have an answer to whether Pratt expects to play Peter Quill again, even if the calendar remains blank. Star-Lord’s next adventure is still under wraps, and Pratt sounds confident that the credits promise will not be left hanging.
