Candace Cameron Bure knows that joy isn’t there all the time, but there’s a way to get through hard seasons.
“Joy is not in every season of life and that’s what happens in life. It’s a part of it,” Bure explained. “It is for a season. It isn’t going to last forever.”
It’s important to remember that and to tell God your burdens, Bure said. That’s what happens in the book of Psalms — the authors pour out their hearts to God.
“I would also encourage you to have good practices in your life that you can carry with you every day,” Bure continued. “Get up, get moving. Look at nature. Look at the beautiful things around you.”
When your mind turns to sorrow, she says to think about the people or things that do bring you joy, even if they are small.

In another post about joy, the Teddy Bear Award® winner said, “Most of life happens in the small surprises and simple pleasures. A heart that has dumped its load of bitterness is unhindered and free. No new day is something to waste; we will never have another one exactly like it.”
She also wrote a devotional on the subject, called 100 Days of Joy and Strength: Daily Devotions to Help You Find Overwhelming Peace on Busy Days. She believes devotionals are a small step that helps people connect with the Lord.
Bure said, “This book is for people who feel alone in their struggles. Life gives us challenges every day. It really is an encouragement to be able to just reset, renew our focus, and remind ourselves that God is with us. He never leaves us. He hears everything we talk to Him about.”
Her devotional shows readers how they are not alone. She shows that joy can be found in the hardest of struggles, even if it’s just a small amount.
In an episode of TAKEAWAYS with Kirk Cameron, Bure told her brother that joy is never dependent on circumstances. It’s a choice to have goodness. Whereas happiness is based on conditions and external things.
“The joy that I have as a believer and a Christian comes from God,” she explained. “It’s knowing that I am at peace with him. I am justified before him.”
True joy and happiness aren’t the same thing. True joy is knowing who your creator is and knowing that He’s there amid everything and trusting Him, no matter the situation.
