A coalition of 12 Democrat-run states this week filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the proposed merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery. If successful, the lawsuit would benefit Netflix, which opposes the merger and is known as the most Democrat-leaning media company in the United States.
Reed Hastings, chairman of Netflix, is a vocal Democrat Party supporter and donor. So, this move by Democrat officials in 12 states seems like a payoff to Hastings for his support.
Also, according to the Open Secrets website, Netflix employees in 2024 gave $850,195 to Democrat candidates but only $8,155 to Republicans. They also gave at least $14.62 million to Democrat, Anti-Republican or Anti-Trump political organizations. Finally, they gave $411,461 to Kamala Harris’ campaign, but only $6,317 to Donald Trump’s campaign.
In contrast to this, David Ellison, Chairman/CEO of Paramount Skydance, though a Democrat, is known as a more centrist media mogul, although his father, Larry, owner of the company, is a staunch Republican conservative.
However, Paramount Skydance employees in 2024 gave nearly $683,000 to Democrat candidates, including $20,756 to Kamala Harris, and only $8,400 to Republican candidates.
Paramount Skydance runs CBS-TV programs such as MARSHALS, TRACKER, the NCIS franchise, CIA and GEORGE AND MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE, programs which seem more family-friendly, patriotic and conservative than other network programs.
