Should You Watch It?

Forever My Girl is an entertaining drama with a strong Christian worldview. Its best qualities are its acting, music, and positive emphasis on forgiveness, mercy, family, selflessness, and responsibility.

The story also asks you to sit with painful choices. Liam has pursued a selfish lifestyle marked by excessive drinking and sleeping with women, while Josie must face the wounds he left behind. The film affirms forgiveness and family in an inspiring way, even though its middle section slows down and resolves important plot elements too early.

For middle schoolers and older viewers, this is a worthwhile choice if your family is ready to discuss its themes and content.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Josie is left at the altar by Liam, the man she expected to marry. Eight years later, Liam has become a highly successful country music star.

After learning that one of his best friends from high school has died in an accident, Liam returns to his hometown instead of going to a concert. There he encounters Josie again and meets a little girl who may change the direction of his life. Liam must decide whether to keep living for himself or become the man his family needs.

Is It Any Good?

Three stars means Forever My Girl is enjoyable and competently made, though it falls short of greatness. The acting is well done, and the music adds to the film’s appeal.

The main weakness is the middle. The story lacks enough jeopardy there, and some important plot elements are resolved too close to the beginning. The main character also forgives the other character very early, which leaves the rest of the story without as much purpose as it should have. Still, the film remains entertaining.

The Worldview

Forever My Girl presents a strong, positive Christian worldview centered on forgiveness, mercy, family, selflessness, and responsibility. Multiple church scenes, preaching, and reading from the Book of Psalms make its Christian commitments clear.

The film recognizes that forgiveness can help heal deep wounds, while also showing the pain caused when someone abandons family to pursue personal dreams. Josie must learn to forgive for the good of the family. Liam must learn to stop living selfishly and become responsible. The movie also affirms that people should strive and pray not to repeat the same mistakes.

Its central longing is for broken people and broken families to be restored. Scripture calls believers to the same forgiving mercy: “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32).
