A magnificent example of Disney animation, THE LION KING is an heroic tale of good versus evil which embodies many Christian allegorical elements. The sinister Scar plots to kill his brother and nephew, King Mufasa and young Simba, so he can become King himself. Demonstrating incredible love and courage, King Mufasa risks his own life to save the life of his son, Simba. However, the noble King ultimately is killed by his own brother who seizes the throne. King Mufasa’s death is a sad, but necessary, part of the story. Simba returns to confront his evil uncle and demonstrates his understanding of responsibility and true authority.
THE LION KING conveys a clear message of hope and reconciliation and promotes a message of stewardship and enjoyment of the wonders of creation. Although there are several minor areas which call for discernment, the good far outweighs the bad. The film includes a positive portrayal of an intact family, as well as a portrait of a powerful, yet humble, leader willing to sacrifice for others. The humor is delightful, hilarious and clean! The animation is stunning. A roaring success, THE LION KING presents eternal truths in the context of an entertaining, exciting, magnificent wildlife adventure which will capture the hearts and minds of children of all ages.
