Should You Watch It?

Yes. PAW PATROL: THE MOVIE is a delightful, well-made adventure with great animation, plenty of laughs, and a strong moral worldview. It celebrates friendship, helping people in need, adoption, and the work of first responders.

The film does include two moments involving cross-dressing. Parents should decide whether those scenes fit their family’s convictions, particularly for elementary-age children and younger. Otherwise, the content is mild, and the story offers energetic fun without losing its emphasis on helping others.

For a family looking for an entertaining animated movie with positive moral themes, this is worth the trip.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

The Paw Patrol leaves quiet Adventure Bay for daunting Adventure City. The city’s selfish, dog-disliking mayor is changing it to suit his own comforts rather than the good of the people he serves.

Meanwhile, Chase, the team’s police dog and traffic cop, must face his fear of the city, where he was abandoned as a puppy. With dogs disappearing and crises multiplying, the Paw Patrol has a great deal to handle.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars means this is a highly entertaining family film. PAW PATROL: THE MOVIE is well made, with great animation that immerses viewers in the story’s world.

The musical score also matches the onscreen action and situations superbly. Add plenty of laughs and fun adventure, and the result is a delightful animated feature for fans of the popular television program.

The Worldview

The film presents a strong moral worldview, with light Christian imagery. It exalts friendship, helping people in need, adoption, and service to the community. The Paw Patrol’s work reflects the value of protecting others, while the mayor’s selfishness contrasts with the good of the people he serves.

The movie also includes two politically correct cross-dressing moments. In one, a boy puppy accidentally wears girls’ clothes, and a dog says, “It’s not important how it looks; it’s how it makes you feel.” In another, the puppy wears a wig because he believes it was his “destiny” that it made its way to him. These moments depart from a biblical understanding of identity, even as the film’s larger moral outlook celebrates courage, friendship, and service.

The film’s central call to help people in need aligns with Scripture: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

The Content Guide

The specifics — spoilers included by nature — so you can judge for your own family.

Dominant Worldview and Other Worldview Content/Elements

Strong moral worldview with strong content honoring American first responders and minor Christian imagery celebrates friendship, helping people in need and the idea of adoption, marred by two politically correct cross-dressing moments (a dog says, “It’s not important how it looks; it’s how it makes you feel,” when a boy puppy accidentally gets dressed in girl’s clothes and boy puppy doesn’t shy away from wearing a wig in another scene because he believes it’s his “destiny” that it made its way to him)

Foul Language

No obscenities or profanities but a mention of feces

Violence

Moderate amount of animated violence, such as people hang upside down on a roller-coaster-type subway but eventually get rescued, torrential downpour breaks a skyscraper, man throws a shoe at his TV and breaking the screen in the process, the Paw Patrol face danger but always come out unscathed, and a few instances of animals almost getting hit by cars, but they never actually do

Nudity

Upper male nudity when man appears in boxers twice, naturalistic animal nudity, and woman’s midriff shown

Smoking and/or Drug Use and Abuse

No smoking or drugs;

Miscellaneous Immorality

Trickery and selfishness on the part of the villains, but ultimately the bad guys don’t win.
