Danny Gokey wants you to “put Jesus over everything” — here’s why.

“Here’s why I put Jesus over everything, Jesus over all,” he said in an Instagram video. “Jesus is my identity. Not money, not fame, not females and not my worship career. Jesus is greater than all my hurts. And you know? Most of the time, I’m the one that’s hurting myself.”

Gokey continued, “You don’t have to have life figured out all alone. You know why? Because you got the Holy Ghost.”

“So, here’s why you should put Jesus over everything in your life,” he concluded. “Jesus is God, and He gave His life for us…Jesus is more valuable than anything this world could ever offer.”

It’s a message Gokey shares in his song, “Jesus Over Everything.”

“Writing songs like this, it puts your life in perspective,” Gokey shared in an Instagram video. “You can have the highs. But if you don’t have Jesus, it’s very fleeting.”

He added, “Bringing Jesus into the equation…Paul said this, ‘The things I thought were gain, I now count as loss compared to knowing Him.’”

“The moments of the great high places — it was God who gave them the ability and the giftings to get there,” Gokey concluded. “Jesus is what brings significance to every moment.”

In an interview with The Christian Post, the artist explained how God plays a role in the writing process of his songs.

“For me, it starts with a prayer,” he said. “I do this every record. And I feel like…as I keep growing, [God’s] downloading more. I pray, ‘Lord, You’re the greatest lyricist of all time. I want to say what You’re saying. I want to speak what You’re speaking.’”

Gokey continued, “By faith, I get ready to receive. I don’t hear audible voices. I just, by faith, receive that God’s going to speak and write through me, and I start paying attention.”

He also encouraged others to talk openly about their faith, saying, “Most people have heard about Jesus in our world. Our country was founded upon Christ and Christian values. The thing is, there’s a cognitive dissonance. They hear Christianity, and they’re seeing Christianity. It just looks like the world. It looks like everyone else except that you just slap a label on yourself. People who not just talk about it, but live it sacrificially, they’re the ones that grab people’s attention. So we need Jesus people to do that.”

Let’s all remember to put Jesus over everything.
