Nate Bargatze says his comedy is a space for people who want to “take a breath” and forget their troubles.

“I feel like [people who want more lowkey media are] kind of forgotten about,” the comedian told Fox News Digital. “Everything is so polarizing, and so extreme and life-or-death. Not that stuff’s not serious; it is serious, but it’s also just people taking their kids to school and they’ve got to drop five kids off…and you’ve got a soccer game and a baseball game, and you got — you know, you’re just living life.”

Bargatze said today’s world “has felt so sped up, and it’s been speeding up more and more and more, and so I think it’s time for people — they want to take a breath and they want to take a step back.”

“Not everything needs to be so polarizing,” he continued. “Things can still just be simpler. I’ve seen that with the tour I go on…I’m not talking about politics or anything crazy, and a ton of people are coming out, and they have fun and they get to laugh — that’s what they need and that’s what I want to be there for them for.”

Speaking to Esquire about his comedy’s broad appeal, Bargatze joked, “Not everybody’s as original as they think. You all have families. You all have this dumb stuff happen to you. You all think you’re dumb sometimes. That’s the only reason I have a career, because none of us are really that original.”

He also commented on his decision not to share his political opinions — “If I want to give you my opinion on who I voted for, who’s that for? It’s for me, really, because I want you to know I’m smart. I don’t think it’s really helping an audience. You don’t think they know who to vote for? They’re living life.”

“Once you run out of celebrities’ opinions on politics, maybe I’ll jump back in,” Bargatze joked. “But right now I just want to do the opposite.”

Bargatze has also been clear about his commitment to being a clean comedian.

“I love that people when they come to my show, it’s — I don’t wanna betray that trust,” he told CBS. “You can have your kid watch my stand-up and you don’t like, if you see ’em have it on, you don’t have to be like, ‘Whoa, what’s going on?’”

Bargatze’s approach to comedy has earned him millions of fans who all enjoy his relatable jokes.
