After STRANGER THINGS finished, 24-year-old Caleb McLaughlin deleted Instagram and dove deeper into his faith.
“I did that a lot this summer, and I went to church a lot with my family, and I deleted Instagram and got off social media and just started grounding myself a little bit more and talking to God more,” he said on the “Podcrushed” podcast. “It’s been really replenishing.”
McLaughlin believes his role as an actor is something God has called him to do.
“I never wanted to do it — it just happened,” he added. “I love it more than anything now.”
His father is a pastor, but he didn’t impose his faith on McLaughlin or his siblings.
“He’d ask if we wanted to go, but if we didn’t, he wouldn’t push it. I kind of found my own relationship with God,” he said.

His family’s denomination is Baptist, but McLaughlin says he leans toward the “more spiritual.” He said he’s had faith for a long time, but he’s closer to God now.
“Because I feel like sometimes you live your life, and you kind of get into the world a little bit, and then you kind of stop praying sometimes, and you’re like, ‘Alright, I’m praying before I go to sleep. All right, great.’ But then you have those moments like, wait, I need to pray and talk to God and ground [myself],” he said.
McLaughlin admitted at times he’s leant toward worldly validation instead of God’s. But now he’s able to step out of that mentality and make communication with Him a priority.
“When you’re able to sit down, ground yourself, and pray, and knowing that God is listening, that becomes the foundation. That’s what you can rely on any time of the day [or] year,” he said.
Last November, the actor stated that he when he focuses on ego, he loses himself. He chooses to live “through the spirit” and focus on heavenly things instead of the world. And because of his faith, he’s able to love others and offer them forgiveness.
Every night, McLaughlin prays for his family, friends and the world.
“I don’t think about myself when I pray because prayer is needed for all,” he explained.
One of the actor’s recent projects is GOAT, his first animation. He voices the lead, Will Harris. He is currently involved in a Netflix AI thriller called 2034. It’ll also star Rachel McAdams, Jeff Daniels and Joel Edgerton, Cinema Blend reported. It’s expected to come out next year.
