SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY swung past $1 billion at the worldwide box office in just six days.

That’s second-fastest climb to that mark in movie history behind only AVENGERS: ENDGAME, Deadline reported. The Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios release, starring actor Tom Holland as Peter Parker, also set the record for the biggest domestic opening weekend ever with $360 million.

Peter Parker “risks his very life to save the life of another human being” and “urges a villain to change his evil direction,” Movieguide®’s review of the movie noted, praising its strong Christian, moral worldview.

That moral clarity comes with a catch, though. Movieguide® counted roughly 40 instances of coarse language, including a blasphemous use of Jesus’ name, earning the movie an “Extreme Caution” rating for older teens and adults, even as it awarded the movie four out of four stars for entertainment quality.

This isn’t the first time a SPIDER-MAN movie has rewritten the record books on Movieguide®’s watch. In 2022, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME overtook AVATAR for third place on the all-time domestic chart, a milestone Movieguide® called further proof that movies rich in redemptive content outperform their “gratuitous counterparts” at the box office.

BRAND NEW DAY’s opening weekend alone generated $932 million globally, the second-biggest debut ever recorded, trailing only ENDGAME’s $1.22 billion haul from 2019, according to Forbes. Thursday preview screenings brought in a record $74.5 million, and the movie became the fastest ever to cross $400 million domestically, doing so in just four days.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton, working from a script by screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, reunited Holland with Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo, who returns as Bruce Banner. Critics and audiences responded just as warmly as ticket buyers: the movie holds a 90% score from critics and 98% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an “A” CinemaScore, Forbes reported.

BRAND NEW DAY also turned in the biggest-grossing Monday in box office history, at $46 million, unseating BLACK PANTHER, and it joined a short list of 2026 releases — including THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, MICHAEL and TOY STORY 5 — to reach 10 figures worldwide, Forbes noted. Marvel Studios now holds four of the five biggest global opening weekends ever recorded.

Holland shared an unusual bragging right that same weekend. He and Zendaya also starred in Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY, which opened in second place behind BRAND NEW DAY. Between the two movies, the real-life couple accounted for roughly $1.8 billion in worldwide ticket sales over a single weekend.

Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian called it the “lightning-in-a-bottle nature” of the Holland-Zendaya “one-two punch” at the box office, describing the pairing as a rare feat worth studying rather than a coincidence.

Marvel Studios and Sony haven’t announced a fifth Spider-Man movie yet, though a haul like this makes one hard to imagine skipping. Whether BRAND NEW DAY’s box office triumph amounts to a genuine win for families, Movieguide® suggests, still depends on weighing its faith-affirming heroism against its rough language before buying a ticket.
