Peacock Puts Free Pizza on the Line to Keep Subscribers Around

Peacock is trying a new way to keep subscribers from canceling: paying them back for sticking around.

NBCUniversal’s streaming service quietly began testing a beta membership rewards program on Aug. 17, offering shopping discounts, a free year of grocery delivery and buy-one-get-one pizza deals to a randomly selected group of Premium and Premium Plus subscribers, Variety reported.

“NBCUniversal’s unique ability to connect fans with the franchises that matter most to them across streaming, live events, consumer products, theme parks, partnerships and more” is what makes the program possible, NBCUniversal said in its announcement.

The rewards break down by how long a subscriber has stuck with Peacock. Gold members have been signed on for three months to a year, Platinum members for one to three years and Diamond members for three-plus years, according to NBCUniversal’s release.

Every tier gets a 25% discount at the NBCU Shop, while Bravo Shop discounts climb with loyalty — 15% for Gold, 20% for Platinum and 25% for Diamond subscribers, TheWrap reported. All members also get a complimentary year of Instacart+, which includes free delivery on orders over $10 and a New York Times Cooking subscription, though it quietly rolls into a paid membership once the year is up.

The one that got people’s attention, though, is Pizza Hut. Stream three movies on Peacock and subscribers unlock a digital code for a free medium pizza with the purchase of another, per Cord Cutters News. NBCUniversal said more experiential rewards are coming, including Universal Parks perks, early looks at upcoming shows and early access to live events.

The timing is worth noting. Peacock announced the rewards test the same week it confirmed its fourth price increase in four years, bumping the Premium plan from $10.99 to $12.99 a month and Premium Plus from $16.99 to $19.99, Variety reported separately. Raise the price, then hand out a pizza coupon — it’s not exactly subtle, but it does show NBCUniversal is aware that subscribers need a reason to stay besides inertia.

Movieguide® has tracked Peacock’s steady push to widen its reach beyond its 48 million subscribers, including its deal to bundle into YouTube Premium starting in 2027. A loyalty program fits the same playbook: streaming has gotten crowded and expensive, and every service is looking for a reason families won’t cut the cord.

For Christian households already juggling a stack of subscriptions, that’s worth a second thought. A free pizza is a nice perk, but it’s also a nudge to keep the screen on and the streaming habit running — worth weighing against how much time a family actually wants to spend in front of Peacock’s catalog versus everything else competing for their evenings. Discernment doesn’t mean turning down a discount; it just means noticing when a company is rewarding a habit rather than a value.

The rewards program remains in beta, limited to a test group of subscribers, with NBCUniversal expected to expand it if the early results hold up.
