Jonathan Taylor Thomas’s ’90s heartthrob haircut may be permanently seared in the minds of many of his fans, but a recent photo of him from his TV mom’s account may put that image of him to rest.
Patricia Richardson, who played his character’s mom on HOME IMPROVEMENT, shared a selfie of herself with Thomas and his on-screen brother, Taran Noah Smith. The oldest on-screen bro missed the part because he is currently in jail for probation violations, TV Insider reported.
“My other boys❤️” she captioned the photo.
Fans in the comments were happy to see them back together.
“This makes my millennial heart so happy to see. Please tell them some random girl on Instagram says ‘hello!’” one person wrote.
Another shared, “And for those who keep hoping for a new ‘here he is!’ photo of Mr. Thomas … our internet just exploded.”

JTT starred in over 170 HOME IMPROVEMENT episodes but left the series in 1998 to go to focus on school. In 2000, he enrolled at Harvard as a philosophy and history student. He later attended Columbia, where he got a degree in general studies.
“I made such a good decision,” he said in 1999. “Had I stayed at the show and tried to do academically what I’m doing now, I would’ve, you know, put myself in an early grave.”
Some of his last TV appearances include some voiceovers and spots in SMALLVILLE and VERONICA MARS in the early 2000s and in LAST MAN STANDING, his HOME IMPROVEMENT dad Tim Allen’s sitcom, in the 2010s, USA Today reported.
In 2024, Richardson cleared the air on whether there will be a HOME IMPROVEMENT reboot.
“I would hear [Tim Allen] was coming out publicly and saying this stuff about how everyone was on board to do a HOME IMPROVEMENT reunion. But he never asked me, and he never asked Jonathan, who I talk to,” Richardson said. The year before, Allen said he’d talked about a spinoff with costar Richard Karn, as well as his TV sons Thomas, Smith and Zachery Ty Bryan.
“So, I called Jonathan one day and said, ‘Has he asked you about this?’ And he went, ‘No, and why’s he going around telling everybody that we’re all on board when he hasn’t talked to you or me?'” Richardson said.
She said a reboot wouldn’t work anyway. Bryan is now a felon, JTT is only interested in directing and writing projects and Taran doesn’t act anymore.
She said, “It’s not going to be the show, at all. And people think we can just magically go right back to who we were 30 years ago and do a show that was 30 years ago, and we’ve all changed quite a bit, I think, since then. It would be very weird.”
While a HOME IMPROVEMENT reunion show doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, fans were still excited to see some of the cast back together again.
