Markell Clark, Indiana University’s Associate Athletic Performance Coach, is interested in more than creating star-studded athletes. He wants to build up true believers in Christ.
Clark, also known as Coach Kell, regularly hosts a team-wide Bible study at his home in Indiana and recently shared photos from one meeting with a crowd of IU football players attending. The pictures showed the athletes enjoying a meal and conversation together.
“Thank you, God for saving & using me to do your work for The Kingdom,” Clark wrote in the caption. “A lot of prayer from a lot of different people over the course of time went into this. Y’all know who you are. May Jesus Be Glorified.”
In 2024, Coach Kell was baptized at Cornerstone Church Athens. Alongside a photo of his baptism, he shared Acts 2:24-28 in the caption. The verses read:

“But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep Him in its grip. King David said this about Him
‘I see that the Lord is always with me.I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts His praises! My body rests in hope. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave. You have shown me the way of life, and You will fill me with the joy of your presence.”
In Feburary, Clark started his new role at Indiana University, the reigning NCAA National Champions and the college home of the 2026 No. 1 NFL draft pick, quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who’s now with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Clark, who won SEC championships with the University of Georgia football team, continues to have an attitude of gratitude.
“Too much to be grateful for! New job, new city, same general by my side and the two youngins’ under us. God is good!” the performance coach wrote in a post on Instagram celebrating his 28th birthday.
He included Romans 8:28, which says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
No matter what school Coach Kell may be a part of, his mission is simple: to help young men become better on and off the football field, with a Christ-first mindset.
