How often in your life do you look back to see how God parted the sea for you?
Every July, HGTV star Jenny Marrs thanks her Creator that she “Bore witness to a miracle. An honest to goodness God-sized, Red-Sea-parting kind of miracle” — the adoption of her daughter, Sylvie.
“I post this photo every year on this day to remember,” Marrs wrote. “I never want to forget the way the Lord fought on our behalf. The things He has in store for Sylvie must certainly leave the enemy shaking in fear or else he wouldn’t have worked so tirelessly to keep her from us.”
Marrs and her husband, Dave, first started the adoption process after the Lord gave Marrs a vision.

“At one point God gave me a vision where we were standing at a kitchen island, and there was a gaggle of kids running around us. And I remember seeing a blond headed little boy, and then a really dark-skinned little girl,” Marrs said.
Dave added, “What we thought was going to be an adoption process of three to six months, ended up taking…two years.”
Jenny said, “I just knew at that point [of the vision] our daughter specifically would be born in Africa. We decided to start the adoption process in Ethiopia because that was the only African country open at the time and to get to international adoption. And then we ended up getting pregnant with the boys.”
Eighteen months later, the couple began to pursue adoption again, and they met baby Sylvie. Everything was in order for Sylvie to come home with the family to Arkansas when the country suddenly prohibited adopted children from leaving.
“It was heart-wrenching. There was nothing we could do,” Dave recalled.
“Hope had nearly been lost,” Marrs said. “Despair had slowly seeped in. 602 days of waiting, 602 days of praying and pleading and calling Congressmen and Senators and flying over the sea to beg the US Embassy to help. Emails and letters and phone calls with no traction toward getting her home left us depleted.”
During those 602 days, Marrs found out she was pregnant and gave birth to a little girl who joined her older twin brothers.
“The boys loved praying for Sylvie to come home. But when Sylvie came home, Charlotte was two months old, and Sylvie was two and a half years old. The twin boys had gone from a mom and dad with twin boys to mom and dad taking care of a newborn. And, with Sylvie coming home, it was much more than even what a newborn would be,” Dave said.
Now, the family uses this time to remind themselves of what God has done and will continue to do in their lives. Praise God for His continued blessings on the Marrs family.
