Marvel fans are buying their seats early: AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY has crossed $50 million in domestic presales more than three months before its Dec. 18 debut.
“We are three months out from the movie and we already have $50 million of pre-sales, literally three months out,” The Walt Disney Company Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston told investors. “There is a ton of thirst and excitement within that fan base to see another AVENGERS movie.”
The new tally turns an already muscular start into a full-blown box-office statement. As Movieguide® previously reported, the superhero movie brought in $16.5 million during its first day of advance sales in July, despite offering tickets only for premium-format screenings at roughly 1,000 domestic theaters.
Now that figure has more than tripled, and moviegoers are not merely picking any open seat. Disney said more than 70% of the $50 million came from tickets for Infinity Vision-certified screens, giving the company’s new premium label a loud debut before it has hosted a single new release.
Disney introduced Infinity Vision at CinemaCon as a certification for large-format auditoriums that meet standards for screen size, laser projection and premium sound. At launch, the company counted more than 75 domestic and 300 international screens under the banner.

That premium-heavy split matters because AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY will open the same day as DUNE: PART THREE, which has the coveted Imax screens for its opening stretch. Disney’s answer is to help fans spot other auditoriums built for scale — and early buyers appear willing to follow the signs.
Presales do not guarantee an opening-weekend record, especially with nearly 100 days left for excitement to rise, cool or shift. Still, $50 million already committed suggests audiences see this as more than another chapter in a sprawling franchise; they see an event worth putting on the calendar.
The cast explains plenty of that pull. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Victor von Doom, while Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie and Paul Rudd join heroes from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men in one enormous collision.
“The fun of an AVENGERS movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said. “In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes.”
That promise — familiar heroes learning how to stand together when their worlds collide — carries obvious appeal for families who have followed the MCU for years. Spectacle may sell the premium ticket, but courage, sacrifice and loyalty will determine whether the story underneath it earns that excitement.
Early enthusiasm cannot answer questions about the movie’s final content, of course. Families will need the full picture — its violence, language, themes and worldview — before deciding whether this multiverse event belongs in their holiday plans.
For now, the presale surge gives Marvel its clearest signal yet that audiences are ready to assemble again. AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY opens exclusively in theaters Dec. 18, and plenty of those seats already have names on them.
