AMERICAN IDOL alum Clark Beckham is grateful he experienced success when he was older, as opposed to when he was a teen.
“In Top 5, we got flown on a private jet to Nashville,” he recalled of his AMERICAN IDOL experience in a recent Instagram video. “And [someone] points to the plane and he says, ‘This is success!’ And I look at it and I think, ‘I think it’s a plane.’”
Beckham added, “Another thing that was thrown my way that I’d never experienced…was female attention. I was never really popular in high school or college and I just never experienced this idea that girls, like, really wanted to talk to me all of a sudden.”

“At 18, I would’ve seen that plane, I would’ve said yes to the girl that didn’t really like me, and I would’ve seen the followers that I was getting on Instagram, and I would’ve been like, ‘Oh, this is the self-worth I’ve been looking for!’” he explained. “But because I had tasted and seen the goodness of God, and because He’s done more for me in my dorm room by myself with the door closed than any human being has ever done for me, ever will do for me, any heights a plane could ever take me to — I’ve been there and more with the spirit of God.”
Beckham often shares faith-filled messages on social media. In one video, he explained his views on the true meaning of worship.
“It’s time to stop singing the songs because we’re supposed to,” he said. “It’s time we use the tool that God gave us to come back into communion with Him and get out from behind the walls that we’ve put up of shame, of guilt. Because, don’t you see, worship is for us. It’s not for Him. He doesn’t need to be reminded that He’s good. He’s fully aware. He doesn’t need to be reminded that He’s capable. He doesn’t need to be reminded of His promises. We do.”
Last year, Beckham signed with Nashville Christian Songwriters’ NCS Records.
“What drew me to NCS is how passionate they are about helping Christian artists,” he said in a statement. “We both believe that high quality music coming from high quality hearts changes the world. That’s why when it comes to me and NCS, it’s hand in glove. They teach, coach, make great music, and they want to take over the world for Jesus.”
Beckham continued, “Signing with NCS Records is both an honor and a responsibility that I cherish. Not only do I see it as an opportunity to help define what this new chapter for NCS looks like, but they’ve looked me in the eye and said, ‘We believe in you.’ That makes me want to run through a wall. And figuratively, I intend to.”
