Alexa PenaVega encourages people to change their mindsets about how we view abortion culturally.

“My best friend, my husband and I met at his Bible study. He’s a refugee from Afghanistan,” she shared while speaking at the 2024 Live Action Gala. “And when we were talking about what it was like for him growing up in Afghanistan, where he came from, if the wives ever got out of hand, the husbands would beat them to sort them out, as they would say. And it was a very cultural norm. Nobody considered it bad.”

PenaVega continued, “When they all came over to America as refugees, they were getting arrested like crazy, because the wives were turning them in, because here, culturally, it’s unacceptable.”

“That’s what’s happening with abortion,” she said. “We’re culturally accepting it, but we would never accept wife-beating, right? What’s the difference? They’re both horrible, horrible things. And one is truly ending a life. We just need to reshape our culture. How do we get past that? It literally takes one person to be brave and move forward and speak on it.”

PenaVega often shares her pro-life beliefs. On a 2023 episode of the “Speak Out” podcast, the SPY KIDS actress said, “I just can’t see anything past once life begins that isn’t a whole baby. That is a beautiful life, and for me I will do whatever it takes to protect that.”

“It breaks my heart that people have been really manipulated into thinking that human life is just so disposable, and they can’t even look at a baby as something that is a human life,” she added.

PenaVega even personally helped a teenage girl change her mind about getting an abortion.

“I was so excited at this possibility, but also, I’ve never had this conversation before — what do you even say to a young girl who’s in this position?” the actress recalled, via Crosswalk. “I think she was 16 or 17, and she’s just in this position of like, ‘I don’t know what to do.’”

PenaVega continued, “What’s wild is she decided to keep the baby, and I have a relationship with her. And I get to see this baby on social media. … I see this beautiful little girl, and I start bawling.”

PenaVega is willing to stand up for beliefs, even if they’re unpopular, and wants others to join her.
