Priscilla Shirer shared an important message about prioritizing the things you feel called by God to do.

“You cannot do a thousand things to the glory of God, but you can do one or two,” she said while appearing on the “WHOA That’s Good” podcast. “Find out, in this season, what those one or two or three things are that God is calling you to prioritize in this season, and then ask Him to give you the courage to say no to everything else. Then you can do those things to His glory.”

Shirer explained that “seasons will change and there will be different priorities” but encouraged the listeners to ask God, “What are the things You’ve asked me to prioritize?”

“And then do those things to the glory of God,” she added. “But you can’t do everything at the same time.”

Shirer has previously spoken about the importance of not over-working yourself on an episode of her own podcast.

“God graciously gives the children of Israel all this mana, then He says, ‘On the seventh day, you’re not going to gather. If you do go out there, you’re going to be expending so much time, effort, energy; it’s going to be exhausting, and you’re still going to come up empty-handed,’” she said, referring to the story in Exodus.

Shirer continued, “To me, that is one of the markers when I’ve stepped into God’s margin. When I’m doing, doing, doing, and really, the only fruit I’m getting out of it is a feeling of exhaustion. ‘Cause we would apply this even to working and being productive and diligent. We can’t say, ‘God, do the work for me.’ No, He’s given you gifts and talents, and you have to be disciplined enough to sit down and do the work He’s given your hands to do.”

“Here is the Lord giving me the opportunity to gather mana, and I see fruit of it. The fruit of it means….that what I’m doing matters. I feel purpose,” she finished.

Shirer recently celebrated 20 years with Lifeway, marking the occasion with an event at First Baptist Church Woodstock.

During the event, Shirer reminded the audience that they have all “been called to be a representative of our God and His kingdom so others see what God looks like. Wherever you are is an assignment from God.”

“Everything you do is for the glory of God to reflect the power and presence of God everywhere you go,” she continued.

Shirer’s remarks are a reminder of the importance of prioritizing the ways we honor God, instead of pulling ourselves in a thousand different directions.
