PRACTICAL MAGIC 2
Bewitched sequel with a dark worldview.
Should You Watch It?
No. This long-awaited sequel brings the Owens family back together to break a generations-old curse. The story has plenty of humor, romance, and heart, with selfless acts that give the movie some genuine warmth. Unfortunately, the movie casts several concerning elements in an appealing light, making a spiritually troubling worldview look deceptively charming.
First, the movie leans heavily into paganism and occult practices. Although the characters use magic to deal with the family’s curse, the movie presents these practices as appealing and largely harmless, which conflicts with biblical standards.
The movie also includes unnecessary sexual content and nudity, along with some foul language and moderate violence. One storyline also raises troubling questions about self-sacrifice and the value it places on it.
Overall, this movie has plenty of heart, humor, and romance, along with a few positive moral themes. But its occult worldview, sexual content, language, and violence outweigh those positives. The movie’s magic may look harmless to some, but its worldview tells a different story.
The Story
NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISESAfter losing the man she loved, Michael, Sally Owens worries that the Owens family curse could pass to her daughters, Kiley and Antonia. At Michael’s graveside, Sally shares her fears with the two girls but keeps their family’s magical heritage and the curse a secret to protect them. Years later, sisters Sally and Gillian Owens have grown into adults, while Sally’s daughters, Kiley and Antonia, have entered young adulthood. Antonia works as a nurse and remains single, while Kiley attends college and has a boyfriend. Now, the question remains: will the Owens family curse follow Sally’s daughters into the next generation?
Is It Any Good?
Three stars feel right for this continuation of the Owens family story, which keeps the family curse at the center while passing it to a new generation. That shift adds a fun question to the mix: what comes next for the Owens family? The movie also earns points for its humor, romance, selflessness, and overall entertainment value. The cast does a wonderful job with their characters and brings plenty of personality to the story.
The story has enough warmth and charm to keep viewers invested, but disturbing, questionable choices muddy the picture. The occult elements, sexual content, nudity, foul language, and moderate violence create concerns that the movie’s lighter moments don't overcome. In the end, this family curse may be the least troubling thing hanging over the Owens family.
The Worldview
Paganism and occult practice drive nearly every turn of this movie, and that current pulls against the truth of Christ. The Owens women chase power through spells and family ritual, treating witchcraft as a birthright, yet Jesus already offers both freely to anyone who comes to Him.
Family loyalty stands out as the movie’s one true value, with the sisters repeatedly sacrificing for each other in a faint echo of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Yet the Owens family’s spiritual life centers on generational magic rather than the gospel. The youngest Owens woman seeks acceptance, a longing only Jesus can truly satisfy, but she finds it through magic instead.
The plot rewards surrender to the family craft, but Scripture calls for a different surrender: submission to Christ, not to spells. The movie argues that inherited magic and family loyalty can heal any wound the past leaves behind, but only the blood of Jesus heals a wound that deep.
Psalm 128:1-6 paints the true picture of family blessing: a life ordered around reverence for God brings real happiness, a thriving household, and generations of peace, gifts no spell can conjure and only the Lord can give.

Talk About It
Questions for the drive home, the dinner table, or the youth group.
In the beginning of the movie, Sally grieves while visiting Michael’s tombstone at the cemetery. The loss of a family member or loved one is never easy. But what can scripture offer regarding life after death and hope in Christ? John 11: 1-44.
In the movie, Tom is depicted as a character that tries to gain magical powers to take revenge on the people who mocked him and his family. What can scripture teach about retaliation or proper response to our enemies? Matthew 5: 43-48.
What can Scripture teach about the difference between works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit, the very contrast this movie's witchcraft ignores? Galatians 5:16-26.
This movie's ending scene twists selflessness into something that only resembles real love. Where does the Bible say true love actually comes from and what it truly looks like in Christ? 1 John 4:7-21.
The Final Word
Strong pagan ritual and occult practice anchor this movie's foundation from the opening scene to the closing credits, and strong sexual content, nudity, occasional obscenities, moderate violence, and a few troubling actions ride right alongside them. Yet humor, romance, real selflessness, and solid entertainment shine through too, carried by a cast that brings genuine life to every character. Weigh the good against the bad, though, and the verdict lands hard: this family curse casts a spell no viewer should fall for.
