Vanessa Ray dropped in on the Boston set of BOSTON BLUE this summer, and the photos she posted have BLUE BLOODS fans wondering if her old character is next in line for a reunion.
“August: got to meet new family. @bostonbluecbs @therealsonequa,” Ray wrote in an Instagram post shared Sept. 1, alongside a photo and video of herself with Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green.
Ray played Eddie Janko, wife of Jamie Reagan, on BLUE BLOODS for more than a decade before the show ended its run in 2024. She showed up on set in plain clothes rather than Eddie’s police uniform, which suggests this was a friendly visit rather than a filmed cameo. Still, the timing is hard to ignore.
Will Estes, who played Jamie Reagan opposite Ray for the entirety of BLUE BLOODS, is confirmed to appear in BOSTON BLUE’s second season. He was spotted filming in August, and Wahlberg made it official the following day on his own Instagram Story.

If Jamie is back for a visit, it’s not much of a leap to wonder whether Eddie might follow. Ray seems to have made more than one trip to Boston over the summer, which lined up with BOSTON BLUE’s location shoot there. The show otherwise films primarily in Toronto.
“Boston singing all the worship music. @donniewahlberg,” Ray wrote in a second slide from the same post.
Ray wouldn’t be the first BLUE BLOODS alum to make the crossover. Movieguide® has tracked the spinoff’s steady habit of pulling the extended Reagan family back together. Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan became the first sibling to guest star, appearing in BOSTON BLUE’s premiere and returning later in Season 1.
Len Cariou’s Henry “Pop” Reagan and Will Hochman’s Joe Hill also turned up during the first season. Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez became enough of a fan favorite in her handful of episodes that creators are reportedly considering making her a series regular.
Tom Selleck remains the one holdout. The BLUE BLOODS patriarch has said he’d rather let the original show keep its place in television history than reprise Frank Reagan for a guest spot elsewhere.
Season 1 already confirmed, without ever putting Eddie or Frank on screen, that Jamie and Eddie welcomed a son named Joe Francis Reagan — a quiet nod to a marriage BLUE BLOODS spent a decade building. That’s the thread BOSTON BLUE keeps pulling on: even with Danny Reagan hundreds of miles from his father’s dinner table, the show keeps finding reasons to bring the family back into the same room, on screen and off. Whether Ray’s Boston trip turns into a scripted return or stays a summer visit between friends, it’s one more sign that the Reagans, spinoff or not, are still built to stick together.
