MAGIC

MAGIC opens with an IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE discussion in Heaven about a little girl named Kayla on earth. Next, an angel takes over the body of a dog, who died from a medical experiment. The angel is Kayla’s guardian. Kayla is trying to find her mother even though her father tells her that her mother died years ago.

Two doctors were experimenting on Magic the dog. When he comes back to life, he escapes their clutches, and they try to recapture him.

Kayla runs away with Magic to protect him, with the doctors, her father and the police hot on her heels. She flees because she overheard the doctors saying they were going to do an autopsy on Magic. In running away, she tries to find her mother by tracking down an actress with the same name as her mother’s maiden name.

MAGIC is a very winsome, wholesome movie. It could be easily turned into a television series. The music carries the story. The acting is good. And, the camerawork is excellent. The dialogue is particularly compelling, and there is jeopardy throughout the movie.

Although the movie is talking about angels, as it progresses, it clarifies that it has a Christian perspective and features Christmas itself. The movie is about Kayla coming to terms with the death of her mother and learning to love her father.

Structurally, the only flaw in MAGIC is that it has multiple endings, but they work, just like the multiple endings worked in LORD OF THE RINGS.
