Should You Watch It?

If you want a cheerful Christmas romance with prayer, forgiveness, and warm family relationships at its center, CHRISTMAS COUPON is worth your time. The story is predictable, but its Christian moral worldview gives the romance a positive and inspiring foundation.

The movie’s beautiful filming location and snowy setting create a Christmas atmosphere. Its uneven quality keeps it from having the strongest possible effect, and there are minor concerns involving a hockey-game altercation, lying, deception, and romantic boundaries.

For a family-friendly Christmas movie with an encouraging message, choose CHRISTMAS COUPON.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

After losing her job, ice-skating instructor Alison Grant begins offering lessons at a frozen pond in Hope Springs. She and her family hand out “Christmas coupons” to attract customers.

Then Alison’s high school sweetheart, former professional hockey player Ivan Hall, arrives at the lessons with his niece. More than ten years after they last saw each other, Alison must decide whether to reconnect with Ivan while navigating her current relationship and his hopes for a new coaching job.

Is It Any Good?

Three stars means CHRISTMAS COUPON is enjoyable and appealing, though its uneven quality keeps it from reaching its full potential.

The movie is cute, charming, cheerful, and heartwarming. Its family elements are wonderful, while the beautiful filming location and snow help create a genuine Christmas feeling. The story is predictable, but the positive message gives the romance additional value.

The film’s uneven quality detracts somewhat from its overall effect. Still, viewers looking for an inspiring Christmas romance may find much to appreciate.

The Worldview

CHRISTMAS COUPON presents a strong Christian, moral worldview. It extols selflessness, hope, forgiveness, prayer, and family. A character prays and says, “God bless,” another refers to the Gospel by citing 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, and a pastor discusses the importance of forgiveness.

The film also includes overt patriotic elements, including calling a soldier a hero and thanking him for his service. These themes reinforce the movie’s emphasis on honoring others and choosing generous, hopeful responses.

The movie’s central moral vision aligns with Scripture in its celebration of love, forgiveness, and family. Its reference to 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 points viewers toward love that is patient, kind, and enduring: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant” (1 Corinthians 13:4).
