Should You Watch It?

Yes, especially if you enjoy a more relaxed, unhurried story. This movie presents a typical romance with a fall theme and a storyline that encourages viewers to slow down, stay present, and figure out what they really want out of life. However, very little occurs in this movie. The main plotline, a mission to complete a fall bucket list, keeps things light and seasonal, but doesn’t quite provide enough story to fill the movie’s hour-and-a-half runtime.

With little conflict for the characters to overcome, the romance has fewer opportunities to build momentum. While lighthearted romances don’t need heavy drama, a little more plot would have helped keep viewers invested. This one is an easygoing watch, but romcom fans may find themselves wishing for a bit more along the way.

The movie includes a heartwarming message about slowing down and staying present, as well as examining what you really want out of life. It also stresses community and family. There are two brief scenes with alcohol, but thankfully, things stay firmly on the tame side, making this an easy pick.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

While waiting to hear about a promotion, Kaia heads home to Maplecrest for her high school reunion. She plans to take a break from her job despite her workaholic tendencies. A meeting with childhood friend James helps. The pair decides to complete the Fall Bucket List they wrote as children. As they work to finish the list, Kaia and James grow closer and must decide whether to risk it all for a chance at love.

Is It Any Good?

Three stars mean this charming romance has plenty of heart, but its plot could use a little more momentum. The story could use more material to fill its runtime, and the romance unfolds with relatively little conflict.

Lighthearted romances don’t need a lot of drama, but viewers still enjoy a little anticipation as they wait to see whether the main characters will get together. Here, their path to romance feels fairly smooth, with few obstacles along the way.

The story also touches on the characters’ dreams for their lives and careers, but those ideas could use more development. The movie doesn’t fully explain why Kaia wants to leave her job or why James wants to expand his business, so those storylines never get the chance to add much depth.

Overall, this is a charming, easygoing romance with likable characters and plenty of heart. A little more plot and character development could have given the story more spark and made it more satisfying for romance fans. Sometimes, even a fall romance needs more than colorful leaves and chemistry to keep things moving.

The Worldview

A moral worldview drives this story from start to finish. It lifts friendship and community, encourages people to live in the moment and enjoy the life they have, and pushes them to chase their dreams. The people of Maplecrest form a tight-knit community: they support each other and spend real time together, and Kaia and James share a strong friendship.

Family matters a lot in the story too, especially in a scene where Kaia's grandmother says she never regretted choosing to pause her career to raise both her daughter and Kaia.

Two scenes show alcohol, but no one drinks to excess, and that stands as the only objectionable content in the movie. Otherwise, it keeps things clean and leaves you smiling. Parents won't find any language concerns or violence to flag either. Grab the popcorn and snuggle up to this cozy romance.
