Atlanta Falcons Nathan Carter has always been vocal about his faith on social media, but as the 2026-2027 NFL season approaches, he has begun to post a daily verse on his Instagram story.
On Wednesday, Carter posted Galatians 6:14 (CSB), “But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through the cross, and I to the world.”
The running back then reflected on the verse.
“What do you boast about? We would be foolish to believe that our ‘good works’ or ‘achievements’ or ‘perfect church attendance and giving’ is worthy to boast about,” he wrote. “We boast about the things that happen on the outside. The things that we think we can do on our own strength.”
He continued: “To boast in the cross is to be constantly aware of our true state in the eyes of a Holy God, and yet at the same time how beautiful the finished work of Jesus is to have redeemed and saved us. It’s understanding that every good and perfect thing that we have comes from the Lord. It is not by our own doing, but by the grace of a wonderful giving God. Every good and blessing is from above.”

Even though James 2:14-26 talks about doing “good works” — instructing us to put our faith into action — we do that so we can share about Jesus Christ. Therefore the only one that we ought to boast about is Jesus.
“The only thing worthy to boast in is Jesus Christ. Not in our works or our achievements, but the fact that a loving God chooses to empower us with His strength which allow us to perform the good works that He set out for us in advance to do. If we do this, the world will be crucified to us and us to the world. Then we will experience what true victory is. Meditate on this truth today,” Carter encouraged.
As Carter stepped on the practice field for training camp this week, he took a moment to pray and thank God for another opportunity to play the game he loves. But he also asked God for strength and courage as he continues to share his faith on the biggest sports stage.
“Behold, Lord, an empty vessel that needs to be filled. My Lord, fill it. I am weak in the faith; strengthen me,” Carter wrote in the caption. “I am cold in love; warm me and make me fervent, that my love may go out to my neighbor. I do not have a strong and firm faith; at times I doubt and am unable to trust you altogether.”
“O Lord, help me. Strengthen my faith and trust in you. In you have sealed the treasure of all I have. I am poor; you are rich and came to be merciful to the poor. I am a sinner; you are upright,” he added.
As the 2026-2027 season begins, Carter is using his platform to consistently point teammates and followers away from personal achievement and toward the only thing worth boasting about: the cross of Jesus Christ.
